This past weekend was a joyous one in the Bonnie household. On Saturday morning, after an inspiring trip to the local Best Buy, Scott and I were thrilled to welcome into our home a brand new Xbox 360. We’re still not sure whether it’s a boy or a girl. Given its sensual curves and stark white exterior, I’m aiming toward male and androgynous. Then again, we do have a pink controller. We celebrated the arrival of this little miracle by playing at least three straight hours of Soul Calibur IV and creating a ninja fighter with no pants, dubbed “Ninja Nopants.” We are so proud.

What prompted me to finally break down and co-purchase an Xbox 360? It wasn’t one game in particular so much as it was wandering PAX going, “Hmm, I can’t play that. I can’t play that. Nope, not that either.” Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, etc., etc. They all would have been out of my reach, just beyond the tip of my Wii-mote. Plus, up until now, I think I’ve been the only living human who hasn’t played Braid. That’s even more pathetic because game artist David Hellman is a buddy of ours. The shame.

Now that the 360 has taken its proper place in our living room, I’m looking forward to having post-Arse time to really enjoy it. For now it sits on our TV stand, waiting to be played with the way it deserves. Though, as Scott pointed out this morning, it does already have a friend: our Brita filter. See how similar their curves are? How parallel in aesthetic? I think they must be long long cousins, or at least twins separated at birth. Now let’s just hope they don’t get too friendly…

Oh and, unrelated to anything, OMG transvestite Phoenix Wright musical?!

Congratulations on your new arrival, just ensure contents of aesthetically similar friend do not spill over onto new arrival ;p

Welcome to the world of Xbox 360, we’re sure you’ll love it and if you’d like a game of Uno at some point let us know hehe.

I’ve been a proud mother of an X-box 360 for a little over a year now and let me just say, welcome to achievement addiction. After years of aimless gaming my geek skills have a focus and it’s a sickness that can only be cured by more playing. I’m playing LEGO Batman and I highly recommend it.

My husband created a Batman and Robin character on Soul Caliber and I played homage to my first video game love, Final Fantasy VII by creating Cloud. I have to admit though, Ninja NoPants blows them out of the water. Ninja > Pirate

As for Live Arcade games, you should definitely play Braid. It’s beautiful for the eyes and ears. Castle Crashers is fun too.

Yeah, my co-owner was up in Canada when I took that photo. He was less than pleased that I got something moist near our pretty new 360 :).

Ooh, Batman and Robin in Soul Calibur. Why do I feel like Robin would get his ass seriously kicked?

Congratulations! I’m in a similar boat—much as I wanted the Wii to fill all my needs, the sight of Bioshock, Portal, and all that glorious Rock Band DLC just made it impossible to hold out.

And I’m looking forward to reading your Braid posts, as I’m sure you’ll have something to say about it!

  5. Duoae Says:

Cool! Congrats! Have to say though that i’ve not played Braid and i don’t really intend to. I don’t think it’s that unmissable.

Anyway, enjoy the new arrival… and remember to buy Fable 2 and post stories about your gender-bending orgies!

  6. Bonnie Ruberg Says:

You’re so right. Rock Band DLC was another thing that made me crack.

Also, gender-bending orgies? Fable 2 it is!

  7. Duoae Says:

    @Bonnie:

Well, you can be male or female. You can have straight/gay/bi-sexual leanings and (at least in the first game) you could be a prostitute as well as, er, using(?) them and also cross-dressing. In Fable 2 you can visit your friend’s ‘world’ and interact with the inhabitants there though i don’t think you can actually ‘interact’ with your friend though one of the achievements is being a participant in an orgy so…. i guess technically they may not be gender-bending…. maybe just gender-roleplaying.

I reckon there’s at least one article in there somewhere!
