That’s right, as of today, April 11th, 2008, Heroine Sheik is officially three years old. Weird, huh? It all started back in the days when I was writing angry feminist opinion columns for Planet GameCube (now Nintendo World Report) and I wanted somewhere to rant all on my own. Of course, a lot has happened on the site since then. We’ve discovered actual sex and gender analysis. We’ve joined the world of sex on the internet. We’ve even become obsessed with fan culture phenomena like game cakes–and speaking of which, there should be at least one really awesome one that says “Happy Birthday!” in big, publishable letters. But no. This delicious cupcake will have to do. Maybe it’s Mario flavored.
Anyways, to celebrate Heroine Sheik’s third birthday, here’s a sampling of some of my favorite posts from the early days of the site:
-Sex and New Games Journalism (or That Old Tingly Feeling)
-What Are You Going to Do, Bleed on Me?
-Who Am I? Who Are You? Why Girls Just Can’t Shut Up
-I’m Sorry, But Is That a Ball Gag?
-The First Rule of Fight Club: Self-Reference, Discomfort, and Gaming as Camp
-A Matter of Perspective: Gender, Culture, and First-Person Shooters
-My Puppy Wears Purple Bows: Gender Expectations and Animals
-Lusting After Old Friends: Video Game Slash
It makes me really happy the site has always been quite so excellently weird!
