Hell, I don't think he has to come up with two great ideas to be a "creative powerhouse"; Katamari is enough to earn him that status all by itself.

John, you might well be right. The only Japanese words I know are the ones useful for ordering vegetarian sushi :).

Bjorn, I hadn't thought about encircling things. That's an interesting idea. I just wonder if he's going to be able to pull off a truly new-feeling game like he did with Katamari, as opposed to an adaption of a familiar game type--like the things we're talking about here. I guess what I mean is, is he really a creative powerhouse, or did he just stumble across something great with Katamari?

You may need to encircle different objects, capturing them, which would increase your length, allowing you to capture more.

The Snake idea in 3d space is nice too.

Destructible environments which are smashed by your head, but you have to avoid things falling on your tail would be a nice mechanic too.

Lots of possibilities, I love that he'll have the funds to make whatever crazy idea he has. The world needs more games that I pick up and play for the fun of them - not for scores, achievements, unlockables or a story.

I had heard that Katamari Damashii is a pun, "Katamari" meaning something like clump, and Damashii part of an idiomatic phrase meaning "the spirit of," not literally that but like to mean the essence of something. Like, Nippon Damashii would be the spirit of Japan. So Katamari Damashii is the spirit of the clump.

(All this is accurate as the place I read it from.)
