The world is truly full of cakes.
Today at Joystiq, fellow cake-lovers will be happy to find “Good Enough to Eat,” a Playing Dirty column about the game community’s recent crush on video-game cakes, as it relates to gender (kind of) and consuming our fandom (definitely). Though I have to admit, I’m still largely baffled on the subject. Fan art is fan art, but you don’t usually eat it. And the idea of taking a bite out of a beloved video-game character…
For my bat mitzah a million years ago, my cake was covered with an enormous icing rendition of me in a kayak (yes, strange). I was personally too busy being awkward to recall tasting it at the time, but I know no one could bear to eat my three-dimensional icing face, which has been living in our freezer ever since. I do, however, own a Hello Kitty toaster, which goes out of its way to burn her adorable visage onto my bread products (mostly unsuccessfully), which I have no qualms about ingesting. Confusing.
Anyways, what I want to know, is where are all the hardcore game cakes? Katamari? Mario? Blah! Give me the Halo 2 cake. Give me a cake that embodies the experience of pumping round after round of ammunition into my enemies. Can you say red icing? Delicious!

Joystiq-reader Rubang B. was kind enough to send over these photos of his Wii-mote cake from his 24th bday party/Wii-athon. Now this actually looks like a game cake I wouldn’t mind taking a slice out of. Thanks, Rubang!

Chris Furniss, a.k.a. “Frodo,” from The Weekly Geek just sent in this NES groom’s cake from “The Geek” and “White Mage”’s wedding. Delicious and so sweet!

Here’s a mini medley of the game cakes I’ve collected since putting together the first two mosiac images. Of course, I’m still looking for more!
