What would you call it if real-time strategy, turn-based gaming, and the wild wild west had a child? Why, Bang! Howdy of course! Check out my Gamasutra interview with Creative Director Michael Bayne for more on the aesthetic, mechanics, and future of the game.

I must admit I have always thought the Wild West would be a great setting for an mmorpg. But “Bang! Howdy” ain’t what I had in mind.

No? What did you have in mind?

Firstly, more realistic graphics.
How much effort would it take to use one of the game engines for the 15 million fantasy games out there and tweak it to a Wild West setting? Change the game play a little, and voila! You have a Wild West game.
I know it’s not as simple as I just described it, but it would certainly be easier than building it from the ground up.

I was also expecting an actual mmorpg. “Bang! Howdy” looks like more of an online game than an actual mmorpg. I can’t see role playing with such silly avatars.
